Divine is a girl from the street. She takes care of a group of abandoned children with whom she lives in a abandon house in a poor neighborhood. Divine and the boys have become a family; A family now in danger of separating.
At the beginning of the story Divine is trying to convince the social worker not to take the kids to an orphanage because she is able to take care of them as she did so far. But the law does not understand of affections and love and does not make exceptions. When she is cornered, she decides to hide the boys. This is happening in her life, when suddenly she crosses a woman named Irene who apparently is about to be run over by a truck.
We say "apparently" because in reality this lady is her grandmother, who is trying to establish a bond with the grandaughter, by setting up this situation. Divine saves her and they make contact for the first time.
